[Column] Breast Augmentation: What to Keep in Mind When Choosing an Implant

[Star Daily News = Reporter Gyu-jun Hwang] With summer approaching, inquiries from women about breast augmentation are on the rise. In the past, choices were made with a focus on the shape and size of the augmented breasts. Recently, however, people are considering breast augmentation methods and implants that satisfy not only shape and size but also naturalness and feel after surgery.

Breast augmentation is a surgery that changes the shape and size of the breasts to the desired form by inserting medical implants inside the breasts. This is why many people find implant selection difficult ahead of surgery.

The feel, shape, and size vary depending on the implant used, and an implant suited to one's body type must be chosen. The choice of implant can also differ depending on the desired shape: a teardrop implant is used when a natural shape is the top priority, while a round implant is chosen when upper-pole volume is lacking and improving it is the priority. Recently, as interest in natural feel has grown, micro-textured implants such as BellaGel and Motiva, whose advantage is a natural feel, are being chosen.

Although there are various implants available, satisfactory results can only be achieved by choosing an implant according to individual characteristics and preferences, so consultation with a breast surgery specialist is one of the most important factors. If an implant is chosen that exceeds one's chest circumference or is a size that strains the body, not only does the feel of the breasts deteriorate, but the thin tissue stretches, making the implant more noticeable and unnatural, so great care must be taken in choosing the implant size.

Meanwhile, since breast augmentation is a demanding surgery, it is important to establish a customized surgical plan through detailed consultation with an experienced breast specialist, and since side effects such as capsular contracture can occur, it is important to clearly understand the potential side effects before undergoing surgery.
