Eye Surgery and Posterior Canthoplasty: Does It Always Stick Together?
나나성형외과 Views:0

One of the biggest factors determining a person's first impression is having large, clear eyes. Double eyelid surgery, performed to correct dull-looking eyes, has become so common in recent times that it can hardly be called cosmetic surgery anymore.

While some people undergo double eyelid surgery to enlarge small eyes, canthoplasty (eyelid opening surgery) is often necessary to effectively and beautifully increase the size of the eyes. Most Korean eyes have long Mongolian folds at the inner corner of the eye, which can give a tired impression. In such cases, anterior canthoplasty can be performed. Additionally, posterior canthoplasty, which opens the outer corner of the eye to create a refreshed and neat impression, is often performed together.

However, conventional posterior canthoplasty surgery had limitations in the length of the opening and many cases reported side effects such as the opened area closing again after surgery.

Dr. Hyung-Jun Kim, director of Nana Plastic Surgery, stated, "Most cases where patients report side effects after canthoplasty surgery result from indiscriminately performing the procedure simply to enlarge the eyes. When customized procedures are performed to balance the eyes and overall face according to individual preferences, concerns can be minimized." He added, "By performing surgery with minimal incisions and careful suturing after surgery to minimize scarring and reduce the risk of reopening, highly satisfactory surgical results can be achieved."

He also added, "Since eye surgery is a fundamental procedure, it is important to receive consultation and surgery from experienced medical professionals with expertise in the hospital who understand individual differences such as skin thickness, muscle condition, and amount of eyelid fat, and who can perform customized surgery."
