Eye Surgery Differs for Men and Women: Large Double Eyelids Can Be a Source of Insecurity for Men
NANA Plastic Surgery Views:2858

Among plastic surgery procedures, double eyelid surgery has become the most popular. Office workers often have it during vacation, university students during school breaks, and high school students after the college entrance exam. This is because, with proper care, double eyelid surgery and recovery do not take very long.

Precisely because the number of surgeries is so high, one should be wary of one-size-fits-all methods that stamp out results as if by machine. Experts emphasize that because the eye shape that harmonizes with the face shape, nose, eyebrows, and forehead differs from person to person, the shape and surgical method must be decided individually.

The approach to double eyelid surgery should also differ between men and women. According to Dr. Hyeok-joon Choi of NANA Plastic Surgery (pictured), double eyelids that are too thick and large can actually become a source of insecurity for men, so the approach must differ from that used for women.

"For men, double eyelid surgery should focus on natural, clear-looking eyes," Dr. Choi says. "Setting the line and choosing the surgical method should be done in consultation with a specialist who understands the differences between eye surgery for men and women."

In addition, clear, bright eyes without a double eyelid can emphasize masculinity, so many men want non-incisional 'monolid-style' eye surgery. For eyelids that droop so much that the eyes are hard to open, or for a sleepy or harsh impression, monolid eye surgery can transform the look into a softer, sharper image.

"Eye surgery must take into account skin thickness, fat and muscle, and eye-opening strength," Dr. Choi emphasizes. "No matter how common the surgery is, the same line and method should never be applied to everyone."
