[Health Talk] Why Do 'Sausage Eyes' Occur... And What If Revision Surgery Is Needed?
NANA Plastic Surgery Views:1631

Ms. A, a 24-year-old office worker, always prefers thick horn-rimmed glasses even though her eyesight is fine. The reason is that she is unhappy with the double eyelid surgery she had two years ago. Because her double eyelid line was set too high, her eyelids are thick and puffy, looking swollen as if she had just had surgery. This kind of overcorrected double eyelid line is what is known as "sausage eyes."

Why exactly do sausage eyes occur? There can be many reasons, but among the main causes, the first may be a problem with the surgical method. Double eyelid surgery is known as a relatively simple procedure, but if it is performed hastily without care in order to finish quickly, the tissue at the incision made to create the double eyelid can adhere, and the adhesion site may become prominent after suturing.

The second cause may be that the double eyelid line was made too high, resulting in an excessively thick line. The third cause is when blood vessels were not properly managed during suturing, impairing blood circulation.

Without accurately understanding the cause of unsatisfactory outcomes such as sausage eyes after eye surgery, a satisfactory result cannot be achieved even with revision surgery.

For this reason, it is best to accurately identify the cause of the problem and, after thorough consultation with medical staff, proceed with the surgery that is right for you.
