Nana's Guide to
Post-Eye Surgery Precautions
01
Face Washing, Showering, and Makeup
Hair washing and showering are possible from the day after surgery, but be careful not to get water on the wound. Please avoid putting excessive strain on your eyes, as this may cause accumulated blood to drain from the surgical area.
Eye makeup and contact lens use are permitted four weeks after surgery. To help prevent the double-eyelid crease from loosening or changing in shape, please avoid eye makeup for one month. Contact lenses may also irritate the conjunctiva, so they should not be worn until at least four weeks after surgery.02
Progress
Conjunctival swelling or redness may occur after surgery.Conjunctival edema, which may appear as whitish swelling of the conjunctiva, or redness may occur after surgery. These symptoms are common following surgery and typically resolve naturally within 2–4 weeks as the swelling is gradually absorbed, so there is generally no need for concern.
Temporary increases in tearing or eye discharge may also occur after surgery. These are common postoperative reactions and usually improve gradually over time.03
Swelling Management
Swelling decreases over 3-6 months after surgery.Swelling typically appears asymmetrical with both sides swelling or subsiding differently. Asymmetrical swelling visible until complete reduction of swelling improves over time.
Apply warm and cold compress at appropriate times after surgery.Cold compress is recommended for 3 days after surgery when facial swelling occurs. It has the effect of preventing bleeding and reducing swelling. From day 4 after surgery onwards, warm compress is recommended for effective swelling and bruise management.
04
Wound Care
Manage with eye ointment and eye drops.Apply eye ointment thinly to the surgical area morning and evening using a clean cotton swab. If you have been prescribed eye drops, apply them to the conjunctiva 2-3 times daily.
Whiteheads (milia) may develop along the incision line after surgery.Small white milia, approximately the size of a grain of millet, may develop along the incision line after surgery. In most cases, they disappear naturally over time.
If the milia persist for more than three months after surgery, they can be easily removed during a follow-up visit, depending on the individual condition.05
Alcohol and Smoking
Avoid alcohol and smoking for 1 month after surgery.Alcohol and smoking have adverse effects on bleeding, wound healing, and infection, so it is recommended to refrain from them for 1 month after surgery.
06
Sleep Position
Check your sleeping position for 3 months after surgery. For up to 1 week after surgery, make sure your neck is not bent while sleeping, and keep your upper body elevated with your head higher than your heart, which helps reduce swelling faster. Also, do not lie on your side or sleep face-down; sleep with your face facing the ceiling.
