Post-op
Instructions
After care
Please follow the guildlines for better surgical result
POST-OP Instructions
Washing & Showering
You can start showering from the third day after your surgery.
To keep the incisions protected, you’ll need to use a waterproof adhesive like Dermabond.
Please be gentle and avoid scrubbing those parts too hard during your shower.
Medication
After 8 days of taking antibiotics,
switch to capsule contracture
prevention medicine.
A few people have reported skin issues like hives, itching, or pimples after taking
the prevention medicine. If you notice any allergic reactions, please stop taking
it.
※ And don't fret – even if you stop,
you won't necessarily develop capsule
contracture!
Exercise
For the first 3 months post-surgery,
refrain from
intense exercises and massages.
Specifically, avoid strenuous activities and chest massages.
For the first 1-2 months, we recommend light exercises without much chest
movement. By the third month, you can start exercises involving the chest muscles.
Sensations & Healing
Most sensation loss or tingling around the chest or
nipples tends to get better within 3-6 months.
Any numbness or unusual feelings you might experience should typically
return to normal within this time frame.
Scar Care
From one month after the surgery,
we recommend scar reduction ointments or patches.
For minimizing scars, consider using products like Cica Care, Conractubex,
Kelocote, Dermatics Ultra, etc., starting from a month after the operation.
Alcohol & Smoking
Please avoid drinking and smoking for a month post-surgery.
Consuming alcohol and tobacco can negatively affect bleeding, wound healing,
and can increase the risk of infections. For the best recovery,
it's advised to abstain for a month.
Underwear & Band Use
Wearing a Corrective Bra properly.
Make sure it's on point! The top band of the corrective bra should be about
4-5cm above the nipple. Make sure the bottom band matches the new under-breast line.
※ Don't play around adjusting the bra straps after surgery. If you wear it wrong,
it might not be effective and can even mess up the under-breast line.
※ Wear corrective underwear for the first month and sport bras for up to 6 months after that.
Sleep Position
Keep an eye on your sleeping position 3 months after surgery.
Month 1: Sleep like a mummy! Lying on your back, facing the ceiling.
Month 2: Feeling sideways? Now, you can sleep on your side.
Month 3: Go wild! You can sleep on your stomach
and any position without any worries.
Washing, Showering & Makeup
You're good to shower or wash your hair the day after surgery,
but be careful not to get water on the wounds.
A little pressure on the eyes might make pooled blood come out. Beware!
As for makeup and contact lens? Hold off for 4 weeks.
You wouldn't want your double eyelid to lose its shape or cause irritation.
Safety first!
Sensations & Healing
Expect some swelling or redness in the conjunctiva after the surgery.
Expect some swelling or redness in the conjunctiva after the surgery.
But don't fret, these are common symptoms and typically resolve
within 2-4 weeks. More tears or eye mucus?
It's a normal reaction post-surgery and will get better over time.
Managing Swelling
Swelling will decrease over a period of 3-6 months.
If it seems uneven, don’t panic. It's normal for the swelling to be asymmetrical
at times, but it'll improve. It’ll get better as time goes by.
Cold/Hot Compress
Cold Compress: Recommended for the first 3 days to help with swelling and
prevent bleeding. It helps in preventing bleeding and reducing the
occurrence of swelling.
Hot Compress: Start from day 4 for effective management of swelling and bruising.
Scar Care
Use eye ointment and eye drops.
Apply the ointment thinly on the surgery site with a clean cotton bud
every morning and evening. If you've got eye drops, use them 2-3 times a day.
Notice small white granules (like little grains of rice) on the incision line?
These might form post-surgery but usually disappear naturally.
If they stick around for 3 months, a quick clinic visit can have them removed.
Alcohol & Smoking
Please avoid drinking and smoking for a month post-surgery.
Consuming alcohol and tobacco can negatively affect bleeding, wound healing,
and can increase the risk of infections. For the best recovery,
it's advised to abstain for a month.
Sleep Position
Please check the possible sleeping position for 3 months after surgery.
Week 1: Keep your neck straight when sleeping. Elevate your upper body
so your head is higher than your heart - it helps reduce swelling faster.
Don't sleep on your side or stomach. keep facing the ceiling!
Also, do not lie on your side or on your stomach.
sleep with your face facing the ceiling.
Washing, Showering & Makeup
The day after your nose stitches are removed,
feel free to wash your face and put on makeup.
Until the splint and tape are removed, just freshen up the rest of
your face with a damp towel. When washing, remember to be gentle around
the nose area, and don't apply any pressure. Hold off on wearing
glasses for a month and skip the sauna and steam rooms as well.
Sensations & Healing
Expect minor bleeding and a runny nose for 2-3 days post-surgery.
You might also experience some nasal bleeding during this time.
Don't worry, a runny nose could linger for up to a month. Be careful not to
blow your nose hard for a month. After that, light nose-blowing is A-OK.
There may be pain or sensory changes up to 6 months when using ear cartilage.
If ear cartilage was used, you might feel some pain or sensory changes
for up to 6 months, but that typically improves over time.
Rest assured, as time passes, pain and sensory abnormalities generally improve,
so there's no need to worry!
Managing Swelling
Facial swelling is expected for about a month after surgery.
Facial swelling is expected for about a month after surgery. Uneven swelling on
either side of your nose is totally normal, and it will even out over time.
Please apply hot/cold compresses after surgery at an appropriate time.
For the first 3 days post-op, cold compresses are your friend—they help
prevent bleeding and reduce swelling. After day 4, switch to warm
compresses to effectively manage any remaining swelling and bruising.
Scar Care
Please come in for dressing changes, splint removal, and stitch removal.
If you have gauze or cotton inside your nose or behind your ear,
we'll remove it and disinfect the area 2-3 days post-surgery.
Splints and stitches will be removed around days 6-7.
Please use the prescribed ointment.
Twice a day, gently clean the incision lines and inside of your nose with a cotton
swab dipped in saline, then apply the prescribed ointment.
Don't sleep on your side or stomach; keep facing the ceiling!
Also, do not lie on your side or on your stomach;
sleep with your face facing the ceiling.
Washing, Showering & Makeup
Until stitches are removed,
clean the non-surgical
parts of your face with a damp towel.
Once the tape or stitches on your face are gone, you're good to go!
You can brush your teeth from the day after the surgery.
As for brushing your teeth, you can start the day after surgery—just be gentle
and use a small toothbrush. We recommend using the prescribed hexamidine
solution, diluted with water in a 7:3 ratio, for rinsing.
Always rinse after eating and aim to do so gently every 3-4 hours.
Sensations & Healing
Touching the surgical area or taking a knock can
result in some unscheduled bleeding or bruising.
Try to avoid any actions that put pressure on your face, like straining,
coughing, or bowing your head. Avoid putting any strain on your
face—this includes exerting effort while vomiting or using the bathroom,
as well as coughing, sneezing, and nodding.
You might feel some numbness in your cheeks, lips, or teeth.
But fear not! This usually improves on its own,
sometimes as quickly as 1–2 months, or up to a year at most.
Managing Swelling
Post-surgery, swelling can travel downward—even to your neck.
While it may look uneven at first, once the swelling subsides,
you'll be back to your symmetrical self.
Please apply hot/cold compresses after surgery at an appropriate time.
For the first 72 hours, opt for a cold compress. This helps prevent bleeding
and reduce swelling. After day four, switch to a warm compress to further
manage swelling. But beware of frostbite or burns,
as your face will be less sensitive.
Mealtime
Days 1–7
Stick to soupy rice dishes (porridge), and don't even think about using a straw.
Week 2–4 (or 6 for Jaw Surgery)
Transition to regular meals but keep it soft and easy to chew.
Avoid hard and chewy foods.
※ Skip these eats: meat (except finely chopped), spicy radish, pickled vegetables
(cut kimchi and pickles small if you must eat them), squid, fish jerky, rice cakes,
gum,
candy, nuts, etc.
Face Band How-To
Wear it for the first 3 days post-op.
Don't stress about keeping it super tight or wearing it 24/7.
From day 4 to a week, go band-free and let it air out.
For weeks 1–4, sporadically wear the band.
It can help skin tightening but isn't a must (especially after jaw surgery).
Cheekbone Surgery Add-Ons
For those who get cheekbone surgery, heed these tips.
Hold off on nose-blowing or wide-mouth yawning (wider than three fingers)
for 6 weeks. A natural yawn now and then is okay to prevent jaw joint adhesion.
Also, if the dressing on the surgical cut gets wet, swap it out with a new band.
Washing, Showering & Makeup
Before those stitches come out, you're on a facial timeout!
Stick to wiping areas away from the surgical site with a damp towel.
Body showers? Totally fine. Just don’t splash that surgery zone.
You can resume your face-washing and makeup routine the day after
your stitches are removed.
Postoperative hot/cold compresses are not recommended.
Because you might have numbness around the surgery site,
be careful not to frostbite or scald yourself with a compress. For the next month,
avoid excessive facial massages and don't open your mouth too wide.
Sensations & Healing
Expect some bruising, which could hang around for
1-2 weeks depending on your body.
Shield bruised areas from direct sunlight to avoid pigment spots.
Until the bruising clears, rock a hat or slap on some sunscreen.
Cut back on chit-chat and tough-to-chew foods for the first week post-op.
you don't want to trigger any bleeding.
Also, steer clear of activities that increase blood pressure around the surgical
site
(like vomiting or bowel movements).
Pop in for a follow-up treatment 2-3 days post-surgery.
Got a drainage tube? Come in on days 1-2 post-op for that.
Managing Swelling
The swelling will gradually subside over 3-6 months.
You'll notice a significant reduction in major puffiness after about a week,
with lingering swelling lessening over the next 3-6 months.
Swelling might be uneven, making your face look temporarily lopsided—that's
normal. Over time, any asymmetry will improve.
Your face might look a bit uneven or even bigger
initially due to post-op swelling, but it’ll get better within 2-3 weeks.
Scar Care
Keep that stitched-up area dry, folks!
If it does get wet, remove the tape, dry the area
thoroughly,
and reapply fresh tape.
Don't sleep on your side or stomach; keep facing the ceiling!
Also, do not lie on your side or on your stomach;
sleep with your face facing the ceiling.
Washing, Showering & Makeup
After removing the bandage on the forehead, a simple shampoo is possible.
Once that forehead bandage is history, you can lather up even if stitches are
still in place. Just be gentle when you’re cleaning the area and opt for a cool
air-dry.
As for compresses, it's all about the timing.
We recommend a cold compress for the first 3 days post-surgery to help
prevent swelling and ward off bleeding.
Sensations & Healing
A bruised rainbow on your forehead? Don't freak!
Depending on your body, it could last from 1-2 weeks.
Until those colors fade, hats and sunscreen are your
BFFs to prevent pigment change.
You might feel some tenderness or even sense something at the areas
where Endotine was used for fixation.
Relax, it’s temporary and will improve. Avoid jostling the surgical area.
you don’t want to invite any bleeding or hematoma. Skip any activities that
spike your blood pressure at the surgical site
(think coughing, sneezing, or head bowing).
Managing Swelling
That puffy life isn’t forever; expect a gradual deflation
over the next 3-6 months.
The significant bloat will notably reduce in about a week, and minor swelling
will continue to improve over 3-6 months. A bit lopsided?
Don't worry, asymmetrical swelling is pretty standard and will resolve in time.
Generally, your eyes may puff up more than your forehead.
So, go ahead and compress around the eyes.
※ If you had fat grafting along with your surgery, stick with cold compresses for
two weeks.
Heat is a fat graft's enemy.
Also, do not lie on your side or on your stomach;
sleep with your face facing the ceiling.
Washing, Showering & Makeup
Starting from 3 days post-surgery, you can wash
your face,
shower, and wear makeup.
However, when washing your face, please do so gently and carefully
to avoid altering the shape of the grafted fat.
We do not recommend hot/cold compresses as they might press on
or change the shape of the grafted area, so please refrain from using them.
Ultrasonic treatments and skincare on the grafted
area should be avoided for 3 months.
Applying such treatments to the grafted areas might
lead to the absorption of the grafted fat.
Sensations & Healing
For 2-3 months after the surgery,
please be careful
not to press on the grafted area.
Especially for the forehead area, avoid any pressure from hats
or facial bands as this could alter its shape.
Do take care to avoid any activities that might cause stress or significant
shock to the surgery area as it might induce bleeding or bruising.
Please abstain from actions that might increase the blood pressure
in the surgery area (like coughing, sneezing, bending over, etc)
Exercise
Light exercises are allowed starting the day after surgery.
Activities such as light walking can resume the day following the surgery,
while visiting the sauna is possible one month post-op.
However, swimming should be avoided for 3 months due to the possibility
of shape alterations from water pressure and swim cap pressure.
Excessive dieting and strenuous exercises post-surgery can negatively
affect the engraftment of the fat.
Managing Swelling
It might be difficult to notice the results of the surgery within
the first month due to swelling.
Although the swelling can make the area appear asymmetrical,
there is no need for worry as it will improve over time.
Around 1-2 months post-surgery, you might feel the swelling subsiding
considerably. Depending on individual cases, a second round of fat
injections might be necessary, the need for which can
be determined during a follow-up visit.
Scar Care
On the 2nd or 3rd day post-surgery, disinfect the wound area where fat
was extracted by yourself using the prescribed povidone stick.
Clean and dry it well before applying a DuoDERM
patch cut to the size of the wound.
On the 7th day post-surgery, come in for a visit to
get the wound disinfected and the stitches removed.
From the day following the stitch removal, it's okay to
let water touch the wound area.
Don't sleep on your side or stomach; keep facing the ceiling!
Also, do not lie on your side or on your stomach.
sleep with your face facing the ceiling.
Washing, Showering & Makeup
Shower fans, you're in luck! You can hit the showers 2 days post-op.
Make sure to shower with the waterproof tape still on.
After your shower, simply swap out the old tape for new waterproof tape.
Sensations & Healing
Watch out for some oozing blood from the incision
site in the first 1-2 days post-op.
If you see blood or red fluid, don’t panic; it's a normal reaction.
Just gently wipe it with a clean gauze or cloth. Considering laying down a
waterproof pad or sheet on your bed at night because,
let's face it, things might get a bit leaky.
You might notice some lumpiness at the surgery site.
Although this could happen, it usually begins to smooth out after about 3 months.
Also, don’t be surprised if your skin feels a bit numb in the treated area.
If You Got a Compression Garment
For the first month, rock that compression garment 24/7.
Make sure it fits snugly without any wrinkles because wrinkles can
lead to unevenness in the surgical area.
Getting it on and off? You might need a hand.
When you remove the garment, it's best to do it lying down as standing up
could make you dizzy. The change in pressure can drop your blood pressure,
so lying down while removing it and enlisting some help is highly recommended.
If You Skipped the Compression Garment
Remove the wrapped compression bandage from the surgery site
at home the afternoon after your operation.
Scar Care
Stitches at the liposuction site can generally be
removed about 7 days post-op.
Although this might vary and could extend up to 10-14 days.
For scar care, a scar-softening ointment can be helpful.
Swelling will start to go down gradually over 3 months.
And if you’re eyeing that final result, know that it will typically
take around 6 months to see the final contour.
Alcohol & Smoking
Please avoid drinking and smoking for a month post-surgery.
Consuming alcohol and tobacco can negatively affect bleeding, wound healing,
and can increase the risk of infections. For the best recovery,
it's advised to abstain for a month.
Washing, Showering & Makeup
Starting on the third day post-surgery, you can wash your face.
When you want to shower or wash your face, please apply waterproof
tape over the wound area and remove it afterwards,
making sure to dry the area thoroughly.
Use hot/cold compresses at appropriate times post-surgery.
For the first 3 days, cold compresses are recommended to help reduce
swelling and prevent bleeding. From the fourth day onwards,
we recommend warm compresses for efficient management of
swelling and bruising.
Sensations & Healing
In the 2-3 weeks following surgery,
you may
experience bruising and swelling.
Additionally, for 2-3 months, you might notice lumpiness where damaged
fat tissues or blood has clumped together. However, these clumps gradually
dissipate after 3 months.
Skin sensation in the surgical area may be dull.
The skin sensation in the surgical area might dull, but there's no need to
worry as most cases improve within 3-6 months.
Swelling Management and Band Wear
Swelling will gradually decrease over a span of 3 months or more.
While individual experiences may vary, swelling generally reduces over 3 months,
but around 6 months are required to see the final shape fully recovered.
Wearing a facial band constantly for 2 weeks helps in achieving stable results.
We ask you to wear the facial band at all times for 2 weeks, followed by
wearing it during sleep or for about 8 hours a day for the next 6 weeks.
Scar Care
A slight amount of blood mixed with the anaesthetic solution might seep
from the incision sites (behind the ears and under the chin),
but this is no cause for concern.
To assist with reducing friction at the incision sites, apply DuoDERM to the
affected areas. Using a scar relief ointment can be helpful for mitigating
scars at the incision sites.
Alcohol & Smoking
Please avoid drinking and smoking for a month post-surgery.
Consuming alcohol and tobacco can negatively affect bleeding, wound healing,
and can increase the risk of infections. For the best recovery,
it's advised to abstain for a month.
Shower Rules
Hold that shower thought! You'll need to wait until day 3 post-op to
get your shower groove on.
During your shower, keep the waterproof tape on both the navel area and
any spots where drainage tubes are in place. Once you're fresh and clean,
just replace the old waterproof tape with a new one.
Sensations & Healing
If you've had liposuction along with your tummy tuck,
expect some bleeding from the incision site for 1-2 days.
If you notice any blood or reddish fluid, don't fret!
It's all part of the process. Just wipe it away gently with clean gauze or a cloth.
And pro-tip: a waterproof pad on the bed will help keep things neat
and tidy while you sleep.
The drainage tube will be removed when the daily output dips below 50cc.
As for stitches, you'll usually be ready for their removal between
4-5 days post-op, but depending on your healing pace,
it could stretch to 7-10 days. Also, it's pretty standard for your skin to
feel a bit numb in the treated area.
Compression Garment Wear
You're in this garment for the long haul—or at least for a month.
Wear it around the clock, and make sure it's wrinkle-free,
because wrinkles can lead to bumps and lumps in the surgical area.
Need to take it off? Lie down and ask for a helping hand.
Taking off the garment can cause a blood pressure drop,
making you dizzy.
To avoid this, it's best to lie down when taking it off
and have someone assist you.
Scar Care
You'll have stitches at both the navel and drainage tube sites,
which can usually be removed about 7 days after surgery.
Depending on your healing speed, this can extend to 10-14 days.
Below the abdominal incision, a Dermabond adhesive is applied,
so no stitch removal is needed there.
To make that scar fade away, applying scar-softening ointment will help.
Managing Swelling
Expect to bid a slow goodbye to swelling over the course of about 3 months.
Individual experiences vary, but generally, it'll take around 3 months
for the swelling to significantly reduce. For the full reveal of your new contour,
you'll need to be patient for about 6 months.
Alcohol & Smoking
Please avoid drinking and smoking for a month post-surgery.
Consuming alcohol and tobacco can negatively affect bleeding, wound healing,
and can increase the risk of infections. For the best recovery,
it's advised to abstain for a month.
